Iowa House District 25

A Representative for Everyday Iowans

Hi, I’m Kolton Jones. I’m a Wapello County native and a paramedic, and I’m running for House District 25 to give a voice to rural Iowans.

Kolton Jones for Iowa House District 25

If you work for a living, we’re on the same side.

I’ve spent my career as a paramedic serving southeast Iowa families when they need help most, and I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our rural communities face—from struggling health care systems to underfunded schools and rising costs for working families. I’m running for the Iowa House because rural Iowa needs leaders who understand these challenges and are ready to fight for practical solutions that strengthen our communities.

Let’s Get to Work

My campaign is focused on the things that actually matter to working families in District 25.

🏥 Strengthening Rural Health Care

As a paramedic, I’ve seen what happens when rural health care fails. Everyone in southeast Iowa deserves quality care close to home.

  • Protect rural hospitals and clinics
  • Make EMS an essential service
  • Recruit and retain health professionals in rural communities
  • End long drives for routine care

🧠 Expanding Access to Mental Health Care

Mental health care is health care. Too many rural families wait too long for help that should be available now.

  • Expand access to mental health care professionals
  • Strengthen crisis response services
  • Improve access to addiction treatment and recovery

📚 Supporting Public Education

Public schools are the heart of our small towns. Strong schools keep families here and prepare kids for real futures.

  • End the private school voucher program — public money belongs in public schools
  • Restore collective bargaining for teachers and public employees
  • Protect IPERS so educators can retire with dignity
  • Restore AEA funding and local control
  • Ensure SSA funding keeps pace with rising costs

💧 Protecting Clean Water

Clean water is essential for our health, our farms, and our future. We can protect Iowa’s waterways and support farmers at the same time.

  • Reduce nutrient runoff polluting Iowa waterways
  • Support farmer-led conservation programs
  • Protect drinking water for towns and rural residents
  • Back practical, science-based solutions that work for everyone

🌾 Growing the Rural Economy

Southeast Iowa families deserve the chance to stay, work, and build their lives here — not have to leave to find opportunity.

  • Put working families and rural communities first
  • Support small businesses and local entrepreneurs
  • Invest in workforce training and career education
  • Expand broadband internet and rural transportation
  • Create pathways for young people to stay and build here

Wapello County Native. Paramedic. Neighbor.

Born in Ottumwa to working class parents, I attended public school in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 2017. I then obtained my Bachelor’s degree in 2021 from William Penn University.

Due to a deep interest in public service and helping others, I went back to school for my EMT and paramedic certifications. I have worked for four years at Ottumwa Regional Health Center on the ambulance and in the cardiac cath lab.

After seeing firsthand the struggles of Iowans in Wapello County, I am running for Iowa House to fight for causes that are important to residents of southeast Iowa.
